From green fingers to glowing embers
It comes as no great surprise that Adam Frost – the Gardeners’ World presenter, award-winner designer and passionate evangelist for the great outdoors – is a keen alfresco cook who loves the Big Green Egg. He was persuaded to buy one many years ago by his Uncle Greg, a professional chef who invested in one of our very early models. “I’ll be honest with you, he moaned about absolutely everything,” says Adam, “but he never ever moaned about his Big Green Egg!”
We had the pleasure of spending the day with Adam at the Yeo Valley organic farm in Somerset. Using Yeo Valley’s fantastic dairy and meat products, he rustled up a spread of hearty brunch dishes. “We do that at home,” he says. “We’ll light it first thing in the morning.” What better way to start a warm spring day than cooking over fire in the tranquillity of a garden, surrounded by nature?

LIVING LARGE
At home, Adam uses a Large Big Green Egg, the perfect size for feeding a family. He’s constantly finding new ways to use it. “When you first buy a Big Green Egg, you don’t really understand quite how many different cooking modes it’s got, so you start watching some videos, you read some books and then it sucks you in and you’re trying to do everything!” he says. “My son oldest loves his cooking as well and he’s trying to do even more than me.”
ABOUT ADAM FROST
Adam love of gardening was seeded during his childhood in Essex, inspired by his grandparents’ allotment, and turned into a profession when he landed a job with a parks’ department in North Devon. At the age of 21, he began working with Geoff Hamilton, an influential organic gardener and legendary presenter of the BBC’s Gardeners’ World. After building his own highly successful design company, which has gone on to win seven golds at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Adam followed in his late mentor’s footsteps in 2016 by joining the Gardeners’ World presenting team.
ABOUT YEO VALLEY
Founded 30 years ago by Roger and Mary Mead, Yeo Valley is an organic farm in Somerset famed for its exceptional dairy products, soups and meats. It is also home to a beautiful organic garden. In 2021, Yeo Valley’s head gardener Sarah Mead teamed up with designer Tom Massey, another friend of Big Green Egg, to create a show garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Designed to demonstrate organic principles and encourage visitors to put nature first, the garden was awarded a gold medal.
